COMING SOON?

[== 1/11 ==]

It's just now getting started, but I'm hoping to launch an all new "uber" guide JAV collecting.  I want this sucker to be as comprehensive as humanly possible.  Right now I'm working on a general outline, as well as recruiting some folk to lend a hand.  This will be something that EVERYONE should find helpful, so check back soon!

COMCAST SUCKS

[== 11/21 ==]

With no written warnings (I supposedly received 2), Comcast has suspended my service for 12 months.  My only option in this area is with Verizon (or another ISP using Verizon's lines) at 1.5M/128kbit.  It's not the end of the world, but it's really thrown me for a loop for the past week.  My trading habits will have to change.  Mail trades will be coming back into fashion, at least for me. LOL.

DVD-Media Deals

[== 10/27 ==]

Alright, we'll all agree DVD media is damn expensive.  Whenever I see a good deal on discs which might be Ritek, I'll post it.  As time permits, I'll try to include more specific info on DVDs, as well as generally organize it better.

PRO WRESTLING DVDs

[== 9/1 ==]

I'm also looking for ECW & ROH DVDs.  I'll trade 4 JAV VCDs per DVD copy, 1 JAV DVD copy per 1 wrestling DVD copy, 2 DVD copies (JAV and/or wrestling) per 1 ECW DVD original, or 3 DVD copies (JAV and/or wrestling) per 1 ROH DVD original.  If at all interested, email me your list along what sort of DVDs you're looking for.

DVDs

[== 8/22 ==]

I've finally got a DVD burner, so I'm ready to start on DVDs.  I'll trade 4 VCDs per DVD.. let me know if you're interested.

#JAVTRADE

[== 4/6 ==]

Channel #javtrade has moved.  You can visit us on irc.accessirc.net (same IRC network as #asianscans and #Asian-Mania).

IN SEARCH OF...

[== 3/16 ==]

Lactation VCDs

These are rare, especially in VCD format.  I'll trade 2 for 1.

Welcome to the eternally-being-renovated JAV Central.

Whether you're new to collecting or you're a "seasoned pro", I hope this web site will serve as informative, fun, and useful.

ACTIONJAV

Find the best deals on quality CDR & DVDR media!

CDRs:  These are the hottest deals on just about the BEST CDR media you can buy: discs made by Taiyo Yuden (TY).  At these prices you can afford the premium stuff!

DVDRs:  Sure, Taiyo Yuden DVDs are considered the best, but they're still prohibitively expensive - even when on sale.  Therefore most have turned instead to Ritek, which are supposedly VERY good.

PLEASE READ BELOW THE TABLE FOR EXPLANATIONS.

If you find any discs which are "Made in Japan" other than FujiFilm, Memorex, HP, and Maxell, please drop me an email at abmea_watchdogAThotmail.com.

NEWS

[== 11/11 ==]

END OF AN ERA

Due to the scarcity of deals on Taiyo Yuden CDRs, the decline in DVD prices, and general lack of physical storage space in my apartment, I am no longer using CDRs so will no longer be posting deals.  In the near future I hope to shift focus here to Ritek and Ricoh DVD media deals.

FUJIFILM USING TAIWAN MEDIA

You can find them everywhere - the new FujiFilm 100-packs are all Taiwan-made.  And now, more and more 50-packs are as well.  I've read one person say they're Riteks, but I bought a pack out of curiosity and got Prodisc - a VERY poor quality disc indeed.

CD-R PRICES SET TO RISE

Memorex has announced that due to a drop in supply and manufacturers shifting focus from CDs to DVDs, they'll be raising prices 10-15% by January 2004.  Other companies will surely do the same, and this may at least in-part explain FujiFilm's recent switch to Ritek and Prodisc.  If you see any good, or even decent, deals on TY discs in the next couple months, you might want to stock up.

* * * BRANDS USING TY * * *

For a while, FujiFilm has been the most popular brand and are almost always made by TY.  Memorex has been using them less and less, and while they used to use TY frequently, TDK and Sony appear to have gone back to strictly Taiwan manufacturers.  HP discs, which have become somewhat of a rarity, are reportedly still TY.

NEW RUMOR:  Maxell Pro are supposedly Made in Japan.

* * * IDENTIFYING TY DISCS * * *

Read the label on the spindle - if it says "Made in Japan", it's probably TY.  You can quickly identify the 50-CDR TY spindles by their distinctive screw-on knob on the top (FujiFilm uses an off-white color, most others are black).

If you already have discs and would like to find out what manufacturer they really came from, such as Taiyo Yuden, download CDR Identifier.

If you know of any other specials on TY CDRs not listed here, drop me an e-mail.

FUJIFILM ARE NOT ALWAYS TY

Ok, it's been confirmed.  There are indeed Taiwan-made FujiFilm discs.  Furthermore, they're moving away from the screw-on knob, however this does *not* indicate it's Taiwan-made.   Be sure to check the label for "Made in Japan" before purchasing.

MEMOREX USING REJECTS?

On the subject of Taiyo Yuden discs being sold by Memorex, I have been advised by Plextor technical support that, and I quote: "Memorex always seems to buy the rejected media that others won't accept."  I find this a ludicrous statement, and am currently investigating.

WHY TAIYO YUDEN CDRS?

Quite simply they're superior to almost everything out there, and if you're in the US you can often get really good deals on them. Maybe not the $2 per 100 deals on the cheapest, thinnest, most unreliable discs on the planet.. but $5 per 50 discs is quite common (sometimes even less). I've used MANY different brands, and nothing comes close.

I've burnt over 1500 Taiyo Yuden, and

* only two coasters were the fault of the media

* only THREE TIMES did I find an error that wasn't in the original movie file

* when "skimming", a.k.a. "scrolling through" a movie, it goes very smoothly (assuming there are no problems with the movie file and your CDROM is fast enough).  In other words, they won't be throttled by your CDROM.

So why do I post this? Simple - good traders should use good media.

A bit over a year ago I mailed a friend about 15 VideoCDs on Memorex CDRs (made by CMC). When he received them, they all looked fine (he checked). About 6 months later, he had trouble reading one, then another a couple weeks later. He then rechecked all 15 discs, and only 2 were without corruptions. His hardware had not changed, and the discs were without scratches or scuffs.

Here are a couple decent "reviews" of CDR media.

The only point I disagree with in the article is that RITEK are "very high" quality.

I use a Plextor 40/12/40 and haven't noticed problems burning at 40x. I guess YMMV.

ABMEA FAQ

ABMEA is short for alt.binaries.multimedia.erotica.asian, which is a newsgroup found on Usenet.  For those unfamiliar with Usenet and how it works, it's basically like a huge, worldwide Internet bulletin board system.  It consists of many thousands of linked servers, one of which is most likely owned by the Internet Service Provider you are using at this time.  If you need help getting started, go to the home page of your ISP and look around in the help section.  If you can't find anything, send them an email asking for information on how to start using Usenet.

MystMan's Guide to VCD Posting

This is actually an extension of the ABMEA FAQ.  If you plan to post a VCD to a public forum, you should really read this first.

Cover Scans

Cover scans are a real pain in the ass to find, especially if you are unable to read Japanese.  Here are some tips for novices and veterans alike.

IRC [coming soon]

IRC is short for Internet Relay Chat.  Most known VCD trading channels can be found on the DALNet IRC network.  This page will briefly explain etiquette and how to get your fills.

Lingo [coming soon]

Not understanding something?  Let the Lingo page bring you up to speed!

Utilities [coming soon]

Need software?  Looking for more technical information?  Want to find out if your standalone DVD player can play your VCDs?  Well, we don't have time to help you.  But these websites do!
